Risdon Benedict Full Hopkins of Canton New York
Those Identified:
He was the youngest of six children born to Elijah Harmon and Mary Shears Risdon. His parents, two sisters and one brother have preceded him to the better land; the only survivors being Mrs. F. S. Currie and Mrs. George Crosley of Webster City, Iowa.
He was married to Jessie Cole of Milton at New Hampton, Iowa, in 1877. With exception of a son who died in infancy many years ago, their children are all living. They are Lottie R. Cannif of Beloit, Herbert C., Frank C., Darl R. Crandall, and a foster daughter, Miss Kittie Cole, who has lived in the family since infancy.
He came west with his parents to Webster City, Iowa when eighteen years of age. In 1873 he entered Valentine’s School of Telegraphy, and followed that line of work for many years, holding the position of station agent in the west, later coming to this place where he made his home for many years. The past two years he has lived with his daughter’s family, holding a position with Fairbanks & Co.
His illness was first noticeable about the second week in January when he had grippe and bronchial trouble, but he did not give up his work until the first of February. All his children were with him and very tenderly cared for him to the end.
